Last Friday, fellow artist Tate Nation and I completed a small painting each as a demonstration for The Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition.  Tate and I have been friends for years and actually shared a studio space together for awhile in 2007. Our styles are very different as you will see, but we appreciate and choose some of the same types of subject matter, so we decided to do an unusual kind of demonstration...together and from the same subject matter. 

We settled on 4 photos from Tate's previous trips to Eleuthera . I was glad he picked boats....imagine that!  Here is a shot of what we used for our reference.  I was led to use elements from the first three of the photos.  Tate will have to tell you which he used. email Tate 

We set our easels up facing each other so that we couldn't see each other's work and began.  See the slide show for a glimpse at what we accomplished. 

It was fun!  Having an hour and a half to work on a small painting in conjunction with another artist....who was doing the same thing right in front of me. I was very inspired once we finished and I got to see Tate's painting! Same reference, totally different views, two very different interpretations!

Some of the crowd suggested that Tate and I must have been "separated at birth".  We all laughed.  

What fun!  We think we might make it an annual event. Next year, I get to pick the photos!     Karen
