Artist Notes; Abaco
January 2008

Theses little specks of land called Cay's imbedded into those stunning turquoise waters hold some of the most magnificent views I've ever seen. Ever.

I loved this scene...and can't wait to get a big canvas out and make a large painting of the drama!

The colors of Abaco are just so delicious and seem so terribly happy.

The skies were very dramatic the day we painted at Little Harbour, the clouds churning and changing rapidly as the surf crashed all around me on the unusual volcanic looking rock formations all around. No one but myself and my friend Marlee were on the beach that day. I did two little paintings  that day - one looking ahead of my easel first then another looking behind me.  They are posted below!

Everything is painted in pinks, corals, blues or turquoise mimicking the hues or the sea of Abaco, the sands and the flowers.  It's truly a place to feel very connected with nature.

View from Hope Town Light House - Triptic, Oil on Canvas.  Total size is 12" high x 18" wide  $900, unframed.  This three piece painting is made of three small vertical 12"x6" gallery wrapped canvases painted around the edges in blue green.  It is made to hang together as shown unframed or it can be framed as one.

The little yellow houses in this painting are  known as Eagle Rock.  We call the small protected cove  where the boats are moored a hurricane hole. It's a great place to anchor your boat if a big storm is approaching.   This is of course, a studio painting from photos taken after I climbed the lighthouse looking out over the Sea of Abaco.

A Plein Air Painting from a previous visit.

These rocks are my favorite in the islands...so I leave you with this image and my memories of standing there bare footed in the soft white sand on this long stretch of beach, all alone. The water was blue, then green then bright turquoise - different every time I looked up and the crashing sounds of the rushing incoming tide continuous.  I still hear it.

With Love,
Karen
