Join Karen Hewitt Hagan in Southwest France for a plein air painting (oil) workshop & holiday.

Fly into Toulouse, France, and meet LVC and Karen for plein air painting and tours of half and full days including places like Pech Merle Caves; the pilgrimage site of Rocamadour, the ochre hued city of Sarlat, and the market at Cahors. There’s ample time for plein air painting, outings, shopping, fine dining and relaxing.

This Art Holiday Workshop is a smaller class size and is open to all levels of artists.  There will be 5 half day sessions of plein air demonstrations and instruction in oil with an emphasis on capturing the light effect quickly on smaller canvases.

This trip is packed with sightseeing, tasting, and plenty of time for painting.  It’s the adventure of a lifetime you’ll always remember.

Accommodations:
We will be staying at Le Vieux Couvent (LVC), a 350 year old beautifully restored convent complex in the village of Frayssinet nestled in the Lot Valley of France.

The small village of Frayssinet is surrounded by wild meadows, flocks of sheep, medieval hamlets and oak woods.

About the Instructor:
“I’m after the light, it’s what makes an ordinary scene spectacular!Whether painting on location outside or inside with a model, Hagan’s paintings depict a strong feeling of light and include rich dramatic brushstrokes. Favorite subjects include quaint fishing villages, pristine coastal landscapes and the European countryside.

A longtime resident of Charleston, SC Hagan has studied with many contemporary masters & spends much of her time traveling and painting out of doors. “Nature is truly the best teacher”. Karen and her husband are currently restoring and living aboard a classic motor yacht.  Hagan’s was honored  with a one woman show at the Iredell Museums in July of 2006, she was presented with the Award of Excellence at the COPA Plein Air Painting event in Charleston, SC, is a signature member of The Plein Air Painters of the Southeast and has just had a book entitled Karen Hewitt Hagan, An American Impressionist published by Morton Arts Media

The 20-person art studio is bright and comfortable.  It is a great place to work after returning from our plein air locations.  During your stay at LVC you can work in the studio, relax by the pool and the rambling gardens or explore the local countryside.

While staying at LVC, you'll enjoy unique excursions for painting, touring and shopping.

Most days we will go to a different painting venue or paint around the Convent.  In the evenings we enjoy aperitifs and discussions of our day’s work followed by a four-course gourmet dinner of regional French and Mediterranean cuisine such as foie gras, cassoulet, or lavender roast lamb and the local world-renowned wines of southwest France.
